I’m Tyler petersen, your independent candidate for Huon
Tasmanians are doing it tough, and party politicians aren’t listening.
I’ve been out knocking on doors and speaking with people across our community, and the message has been clear- families are struggling to keep up with the cost of living. Young people are worried they’ll have to leave Tasmania to build a future. Our health system feels stretched to breaking point despite receiving more funding per capita than most other jurisdictions in Australia. And far too many feel that our politicians are completely out of touch.
I’m not a politician, and I’ve never been a member of a party.
As an ordinary working-class person, I relate to the struggles people have been sharing with me. My wife and I work hard to support our family. We budget carefully, we feel every price rise, and we understand how much harder it’s become to get ahead. Like most Tasmanians we’ve spent our lives in regular jobs, doing our best to build a secure future for our young family.
My working life has been diverse. I’ve owned and operated a small Tasmanian business, worked in pubs, and managed operations for a local aviation company. I’ve seen firsthand how government red tape, poor planning, and disconnected decision-making make life harder for workers, families, and small businesses.
Right now, decisions being made in Parliament will shape Tasmania for generations on health, housing, cost of living, and major projects that must receive real scrutiny. We can’t afford more rubber-stamping and political games while everyday people pay the price.
That’s why I’m standing as an Independent for Huon.
If trusted with your first preference vote, I will fight for working Tasmanians. I will question policy, challenge waste and poor decisions, and make sure you have a voice in Parliament.
My promise is simple: I will work for you, not political insiders and powerbrokers.
If you’re happy with the status quo, you can keep voting for the same insiders who’ve delivered it. But if you believe Tasmania can do better, and if you want honesty, accountability, and real representation, I’d be proud to earn your first preference on 2 May.
